Northants village launches first ever pumpkin festival where residents can vote for their favourite

A village in Northamptonshire is launching its first ever pumpkin festival to give residents something to look forward to during uncertain times.

By the end of October it is hoped that the streets of Yelvertoft will be lined with creative pumpkins of all shapes and sizes.

The festival is being organised by the parent-led committee that runs the pre-school in the village and any funds raised will be used to support the school.

Organiser and father-of-three, Jason Adams, is hoping to see imaginative pumpkin displays created throughout the village.

Jason said: “The preschool committee wishes to inspire everyone of all ages, to enter the competition and raise funds to provide the children with resources for our countryside setting.

“We are adopting the curiosity approach ethos, using natural and open-ended resources to invite children to explore, be inquisitive and play.

“We want to wave goodbye to plastic and allow creativity to flow.”

Pumpkins have to be entered by October 27 so that on October 31 residents can collect a map and decide which display should be crowned the winner.

Prizes for the winner and runners-up include a cheese platter, sweet hampers and more.

Ian Grimsley of B&A Dairies, the event’s sponsor, added: “We are hugely supportive of the 2020 Yelvertoft pumpkin festival.

“The village of Yelvertoft has shown tremendous support towards the company and myself personally.

“I have been delivering milk and goods to the community and surrounding villages for the past 25 years.”
