A Northampton pub is throwing its weight behind Macmillan Cancer Support with a range of socially-distanced fundraising events this month.

The Quays Pub & Carvery in Little Billing will have homemade cakes and treats available for the rescheduled national coffee morning on Saturday (September 19).

The Crow Lane pub is also hosting a raffle and 'gunge the manager' event on Saturday, September 26, before a car boot sale the next day.

Throughout the month, staff have been asking for donations and selling raffle tickets, as well as offering a 'tower burger challenge' for any customers with a big appetite.

General manager Matthew Gist said: “We are really looking forward to hosting our coffee morning and 'gunge the manager' and welcoming our customers to help us raise £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

"Everyone knows somebody living with cancer and events like these are a great way to involve the local community and support such an important cause.”

Greene King, which owns The Quays, has raised £7 million for Macmillan since 2012 with staff climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, cycling to Paris and hosting events in the pubs like coffee mornings.

The coffee mornings have been moved from May to September due to the coronavirus pandemic but the charity fears a large drop in funds due to the current lack of planned events.

Rachel Gascoigne, from Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Our partnership with Greene King has been so successful and it’s because of events like these.

"We are almost entirely reliant on the generosity of our partners and the public and are grateful to The Quays Pub & Carvery and their guests for their support and wish them all the best for their Macmillan event.”
