A Northamptonshire woman turned into a mythical legend today, for one day only.

At 4pm, just as the darkness was drawing in Amanda Drage, aka the Headless Horseman, put on her finest cloak for a spine-tingling show, all for an amazing cause.

Trick-or-treating and home firework displays are being discouraged to reduce mixing between households and prevent additional demand being placed on the NHS and emergency services.

It all started when Amanda set off from Northampton Lane North, with a pumpkin-shaped head under her arm...

The hair-raising one-hour display was pre-planned on social media so children throughout the village could look out for her creepy costume before she looped back round to Cottingham Drive through Moulton Way and back towards Northampton Lane South.

"We thought it would be funny but then I knew it would make the villagers smile.

"I thought I would do it to cheer everyone up."

Amanda was also accompanied on her rounds today by volunteers from the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

She added: "I'm doing all this for charity. There is no aim for how much I want to raise but I want to get as much money as possible.

"Everyone has said they can't wait to see me and they are really happy, even the adults as well."

Amanda, who is used to hosting themed events after organising Santas grottos at Whites Farm in Earls Barton, is also dressing up her miniature pony.

Amy can be spotted tomorrow at Forkies Farm wearing a tarantula costume where she will be continuing the fundraising efforts.
