Free Bank Holiday treasure hunt launched around Northampton's new street art
Families will be able to take part in a free treasure hunt-style challenge around Northampton town centre as part of this weekend’s Wall Games street art festival.
The Wall Games Code Breaker Challenge will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31, from 10am to 4pm, encouraging people to explore the town while discovering large-scale artworks created during the festival.
Supported through community grant funding from Northampton Town Council, the interactive game will see participants hunt for QR codes hidden at locations around the town centre.
Players will use the what3words app to navigate between locations before scanning QR codes with their smartphones to reveal individual letters.

Once all the letters have been collected, they can be rearranged to reveal the final location and complete the challenge.
Colouring books and pencils will be awarded as prizes to under-16s who successfully crack the code.
The challenge coincides with the final day of Wall Games, which returns to Northampton from August 29 to 31 and will see more than 330 artists from the UK and overseas transform areas of the town centre.
The wider festival will feature large-scale murals and live artwork alongside street art battles, music, workshops, competitions and family activities.
Mayor of Northampton Councillor Mike Hallam said: “It’s a great example of how a relatively simple idea can encourage people to get out, explore their town and see Northampton from a different perspective.
“Wall Games is already helping to inject colour and creativity into areas of the town centre that can sometimes look a little tired, and this challenge takes that a step further by encouraging people to discover those artworks for themselves.”
Wall Games founder James Thompson said the trail would take participants around the different artworks while helping to boost community pride and bring additional footfall to local businesses.
