Age UK Northamptonshire says a huge thank you to Deputy Lieutenant of Northamptonshire John Griffiths-Elsden and his mother Joy for agreeing to judge the entries in the charity’s 2023 staff Bake-Off on Wednesday 1st March.

John and Joy gamely stepped up to the plate, tasting 19 mouthwatering entries at the charity’s William and Patricia Venton Centre in Northampton.

"It's a very personal choice, as I usually prefer savoury, but the cakes were absolutely delicious, " said John, as he declared Emma Swann’s spectacular berry gateau the winner and Fran Kitchens’ delectable cheesecake the runner-up.

Bake-Off competitions are a great way to bring people together and raise money for a good cause. Age UK Northamptonshire’s Bake-Off organiser, Pam Kom, says “Why not organise your own event to raise funds which will help local older people. We urgently need your support as it costs over £115,000 a year to run the free Information & Advice Service which in the last financial year handled over 10,700 enquiries and helped clients successfully claim £2,639,000.

“Or if baking’s not your thing, why not sign up for a charity place in the Amazing Northampton Run 2023 in September and raise vital funds for us that way,” adds Pam.
