Home of the nation's shoe industry, Silverstone circuit and more, Northamptonshire has a rich history and is a fascinating place to live and visit for all ages.
But summer holidays are all about the children and the school year has flown by once again - it’s time to start planning those family excursions.
With money tight at the moment, there is no better time to get out in the county and support Northamptonshire’s local businesses.
Here’s 10 things for all the family to do in Northamptonshire this summer.

9. Visit the library
The British summertime is always going to be unpredictable. On a rainy day, take the children to the library and get them to take part in the summer reading challenge for four to 11 year olds. The challenge is completely free and aims to combat the summer holidays ‘reading dip’ experienced by schoolchildren. Children set their own reading goal and earn digital badges as they log their progress online. Photo: Submitted

10. Northampton Balloon Festival
The Northampton Balloon Festival will take place at the end of August at Northampton Racecourse. The event includes hot air balloon displays, fireworks and a fun fair as well as ‘balloon glows’ in the evening. Giant illuminated balloons will make for quite the spectacle as the evening draws in. 11. Tigers Indoor Play
This large indoor play area caters for children up to age 12. There is a toddler section for children under four and a play area more appropriate for older children. Tigers boasts the largest cargo net climb in the country and a four-lane astra slide and zip line. Photo: Google
