However, from December 18 it will be transformed for a run of ‘covid-compliant’ Christmas shows which will feature your favourite festive songs, Santa's grotto and live entertainment.

Natalie Norris, who runs the Roadmender with her husband Dave, said: “I think there's been a bit of worry this year that Christmas isn't happening.

“I've got friends who have children who think Father Christmas isn't coming.

“We had someone through a mutual friend ask us if we’d be interested in doing a Christmas show.

“We discussed it, looked at how it could work, how we could make the venue safe and we thought why not, let’s give it a go. It’s a show that kids and adults will hopefully love.”

The entertainment will include songs by West End singer Alison Carter and laughs from panto favourite Aidan O’Neill. They will be joined by some of the best musicians in the business

There will be two shows a day at 1pm and 4pm with the venue able to safely hold 160 people per show, sat across tables of six and four.

The shows will meet and exceed the Government’s coronavirus and social distancing guidelines.

Mr Norris said: “Hopefully this will allow a family to go out and have a Christmas experience and it also allows me to help get part of this industry back to work.

“Kids will get the chance to see Father Christmas' second home and there will also be some great performances.

“Christmas isn't cancelled in this town, we're making Christmas happen.”

The Roadmender Christmas Cracker Family Show runs from Friday, December 18 to Thursday, December 24.
