Northants Sings Out and Abba tribute act to top a weekend of live music at Market Square

Both acts will be performing in Northampton at the weekend event which takes place on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20.

They will be joined by a full supporting line-up of acts on both days with BBC Music Introducing curating the line-up on the Saturday with the team behind the Northampton Music Festival curating the Sunday take over.

It will be the first time music has returned to the Market Square since the completion of renovation work which in recent years has led to the Northampton Music Festival’s main stage being located in different parts of the town.

Tommy Gardner from Northampton Music Festival, said: “It’s great to be bringing music back into the Market Square.

“It’s been two years since we’ve had a live music stage in the square and I’m excited to see it in action.

“We are very proud to be part of such a special and historical occasion.

“The new Market Square brings many opportunities for future events and will be a vibrant hub in our town centre.”

The Saturday will be opened at 1pm by indie quartet Rolling Thunder who released their latest single Laserhead in August.

They will be followed by DJ-AON - who will be playing two sets during the afternoon.

There will also be sets by Afreine & Mat Day, Great Adamz and Woahgetter.

Penultimate act Bernie Keith’s Handbag Heaven will begin at 6.15pm before headliners The Magic Of Abba take to the stage at 7pm.

The following day, Hana brooks will kick off proceedings at midday followed by Inspiration FM DJs who will be playing three sets during the day.

There will also be sets by Silky Wilford, Repro Jam Squad and the T Bone Afrika All Stars.

There will be a ‘secret’ performance at 4pm and headliners Northants Sings Out will perform at 6pm.

On both days there will also be activities for all of the family and an array of food and drink from local businesses and vendors as well as other market traders.

The Market Place will host a series of different themed ‘zones’ including a discovery zone where people will be able to find out more about the history of the market and wider town and a family zone where there will be an illusions show, a circus workshop, balloon makers and face painters.

There will also be a sports zone with information about sports across the town.

A ceremony to officially open the Market Square will be held at midday on the Saturday.

Earlier this year, the Northants Sings Out Choir reached the final of Britain’s Got Talent.

They also performed on the main stage at the A Perfect Day Festival at Delapre Park.

Admission to both events is free.
