Meet the Northampton businessman behind new multi-angle music streaming service where ‘fans can be the director’

A Northampton-based entrepreneur is one of the main brains behind a brand new music streaming service launching this weekend, which will give fans a multi-angle experience.

Ray Meadham, who has lived in Northampton for around 30 years, created start-up company, Multiview Media, two years ago.

However, the idea for a streaming service that gives music fans the chance to be the director and choose which shots they want to see, originated ten years ago when Ray was working as a teacher at Northampton College, as well as a music manager.

The CEO of Multiview Media said: “I was working as a music manager and at Roadmender we were always thinking of ways to increase revenue for artists, which is when we started thinking of ways to stream shows in multi-angle.

“We have been demoing for years and years, but it finally launches publicly this weekend with JBTV, which is a music television station in America.

“The platform allows fans to choose which angle they want to see the performance from, so there is an option to change from guitar cam, to drone cam and more.

“All shows shoot with multiple cameras anyway, but a director would chose what you see.”

The platform will be able to provide the multi-angle view for live performances, which artists will be able to embed to their own websites, but the company is also going through back catalogues for artists to provide what Ray describes as a ‘multi-angle music Netflix’.

As well as music, Ray and his team, which includes a former director of Apple, are planning to expand into education, sport, e-sports and worship too.

Although the platform is only now at launch stage, it has been a long time in the making and Ray is hopeful all the hard work will help Multiview Media to compete with other streaming services.

He added: “It has been a difficult journey for a variety of reasons, so to get to this point is great, but now the next big chapter begins and the work really starts.

“It’s a great achievement to get the tech working and get it all together, but now it’s about seeing if the fans really want it and we’re taking on big streaming services like YouTube and Twitch.

“We thought the last ten years were difficult but the next five will be massive."
