Mae Stephens returns with new single Delusional and UK winter tour announcement

Mae Stephens has released new single Delusional and will head out across the UK for a run of shows this winter.

The Kettering singer songwriter who broke through in 2023 with her global hit If We Ever Broke Up recently performed at G-A-Y in London and at the first UK edition of the Anti Social Camp showcase.

Mae’s latest track is another slice of pure pop fun with a sweet piano melody and swooping, intricately crafted vocal harmonies.

She said: “Delusional was written by myself and the incredible OSKI.

“Written on less than an hour of sleep we truly felt delusional writing this track.

“The song is about being so infatuated by someone that you would stoop to delusional levels to gain their affection.

“There are heavy themes in this track of obsession, denial and stalking which are very prominent in the second verse.

“I had so much fun creating this track and definitely feel that it pulled me out of my comfort zone on the songwriting side.

“OSKI has an incredible ear for harmonies and played a massive hand in creating each layer of the incredible chorus and backing vocals.”

The accompanying video matches the sheer fun factor of the song which is set in a Technicolour alternate reality that recalls the B*Witched ‘C’est La Vie’ aesthetic - a neat metaphor for realising you’re not quite living in reality.

Mae’s recent singles have seen her apply her charisma across a diverse and accomplished spectrum of sounds.

Those songs have taken her from funk-heavy female empowerment on Woah Man! and a tongue-in-cheek take on dealing with intrusive thoughts on Tiny Voice to learning to stand up for yourself on Done With U and the modern take on Motown-style heartache of Blue.

The latter was highlighted with a performance for the Grammy Awards’ Global Spin initiative.

The viral success of If We Ever Broke Up saw the track clock up more than 400 million streams and led to Mae sharing studios and stages with the likes of BLACKPINK, P!NK, Meghan Trainor, The Chainsmokers, Tom Grennan and Alok.

Mae will play a series of headline gigs across the UK this winter in partnership with the Music Venue Trust.

The Liveline Fund is dedicated to ensuring the best new and developing live music reaches communities across the country.

Through partnerships with artists, promoters, and venues, Liveline is establishing new approaches to reinvigorate local live music scenes.
