Masque Theatre’s next production of The Importance of Being Earnest runs from Tuesday April 5 to Saturday April 9.

The he main characters Algernon Moncreiff and Jack Worthing ponder about the importance of being (named) Ernest while their respective fiancés Gwendolen and Cecily can only marry someone whose name is Ernest.

As both of the men seem to have other first names, the confusion begins. All of this is compounded by the fact that Jack seems to have been left in a handbag at Victoria station and therefore can claim not to have any parents at all.

Director, Rob Kendall said: “Put simply it is a terrific play that has a gentle poke at the aspirational upper middle class society and how they should behave to each other.”
