Geddington hosts Sweeney Todd play

The story of one of the most notorious fictional killers ever told will be performed by a bunch of amateurs this week.

The Geddington Amateur Dramatics Society will presebnt Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

The show tells the infamous story of Benjamin Barker, aka Sweeney Todd, who sets up a barber shop down in London which is the basis for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett.

It is one of the most popular horror stories of all time, gaining its first recognition as a 1930s melodrama with Tod Slaughter playing the title role. Towards the end of the 1970s the story was turned into a musical and it was this version which was turned into a feature film directed by Tim Burton and starred Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.

Doors and the bar, in case you need to calm your nerves, will open at 7pm with performances starting at 7.30pm from Wednesday to Saturday November 23-26.
