Evan Dando to bring The Lemonheads back to Roadmender this autumn

US alt-rockers The Lemonheads will return to the Roadmender this autumn as part of their latest UK tour.

Led by the ever-charismatic Evan Dando, the tour follows the release of the band’s first studio album of original material in nearly 20 years, the acclaimed Love Chant.

Looking ahead to the tour, Dando said: “I had to take a break to reset, but I’m now ready and looking forward to a great tour.

“Touring is a huge part of my existence and playing in the UK makes me extra happy. “You’ve always made me feel so welcome, so I can’t wait to reconnect with you guys.

“And we have one of my favourite musicians Willy Mason opening for us throughout the tour, so come early and often. See you all at the shows.”

The Lemonheads were formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1986 by Dando who melded discordant chords against alt-country-tinged melodies.

Members of Descendents, Blakes Babies, Dinosaur Jr and Fuzzy passed through their ranks and the band released three raucous albums via local label Taang! which led to a deal with Atlantic Records who released Lovey in 1990.

This was followed by It’s A Shame About Ray in 1992 and Come On Feel The Lemonheads the following year.

What followed included acclaimed singles, performances on Leno and Lettermen, self-destruction, road weariness and poor behaviour before Dando announced the demise of the band on stage at the Reading Festival in 1997.

Following a solo album and a stint in The MC5, The Lemonheads returned in 2006 with a self-titled album which was followed by two further releases before last year’s Love Chant.

The Lemonheads will return to the Roadmender in Northampton on Saturday, October 3.
