Wasting Time is the Northampton singer songwriter’s first new music since releasing the instrumental classical album Together At Home in June.

The track showcases Lockett’s candid approach to music making, as classical piano flourishes and lush string arrangements bolster the myriad of emotions captured through his vocals.

Lyrically, Wasting Time explores the feelings and moments just after a painful relationship split.

Lockett said: “The story behind Wasting time is pretty brutal really. It's a clichéd thing to write about I know, but my girlfriend had just broken up with me. We’d been together for about six years.

“We had totally cut off from each other. She wouldn’t answer the phone – nothing. It was over and it really started to sink in.”

Following the break up, Lockett set about working on Wasting Time with songwriter and producer Kovic.

He adds: “Once I had recorded it, I felt way better, the song changed my mindset straight away.”

Wasting Time will be available digitally on Friday, November 13, on regular streaming platforms.

It will then feature on Lockett’s forthcoming EP, Reflections, which will also be available on vinyl and CD.

Speaking about the EP, he said: “I know Reflections is the best thing I've ever made - from beginning to end, I'm so proud of it.

“It’s weird, I’ve felt like I’ve said this so many times before, maybe without truly meaning it.

“This is what I’ve always wanted to release.

“Some of the songs I wrote years ago, some I wrote a couple of months ago. Reflections is the best of the last eight years of my life.”

The six track EP will follow Together At Home, Lockett’s album of modern classic piano compositions.

Released in June this year, the one-off project was inspired by the enforced period of isolation during lockdown, boasting reworkings of some of Billy’s most popular tracks alongside new compositions.

It was both critically acclaimed and adored by fans, reaching number eight in the Official UK Digital Album charts.

Tracks from it such as One World were added to numerous official streaming playlists and media support flooded in from the likes of BBC Radio 2, Classic FM, Ticketmaster, Piano Magazine, Clash and many more.

Lockett adds: “The classical album was fun, but I can't tell you how good it feels to be singing again.”

Known for his mix of soulful vocals, timeless song writing and mastery of the piano, Lockett has gained critical acclaim and fans across the world.
