To add to that, the current champions and regular-season table-toppers also saw director of rugby Jim Mallinder and No.8 Samu Manoa miss out on prizes they were nominated for.

Mallinder’s was beaten to the director of rugby of the season award by Bath’s Mike Ford, whose side lost both league meetings to Northampton during the campaign.

And Manoa lost out on the Green Flag forward of the season gong to Wasps No.8 Nathan Hughes.

Saints were the only side in the Premiership’s top six not to be represented in the team of the year.

Bath and England fly-half George Ford won the big prize of the night as he was named Premiership player of the season.

Exeter fly-half Henry Slade was named Land Rover discovery of the season.
