Saints fly-half Myler ready for Goode battle at Newcastle

And he knows his side must shut down fly-half Andy Goode, who has been pulling the strings for Dean Richards’ outfit.

Newcastle have won five successive home games in all competitions, with 35-year-old Goode playing a vital part in that run.

But Saints have won their past two games, and Myler knows his team are more than a match for the resurgent club from the north east.

“He (Goode) is obviously a very experienced player, a very good player,” Myler said.

“He knows what it takes to play at this level, he’s been around numerous clubs and he’ll surely have added a lot to them, which filters into the players around him.

“His arrival has obviously coincided with a few good results for them and we’ve got to be on our game.

“We’ve got to try to nullify the threats they’re throwing at us because they do have threats across the park, but so do we, and we need to impose ourselves however we can from the off.

“It’s not going to be easy, but we’re confident we can get the win.”

Newcastle need the points as they bid to continue pulling clear of bottom side London Irish, while Saints are now just two points off the top four.

And Myler said: “It is a big game.

“We played them earlier in the year and had a good result against them (Saints won 42-16 at stadium:mk in October), but they’ve had a good run and they’re no mugs up at their place.

“We’re looking forward to taking our improvements into the game and seeing if we can get better again.

“We had a good result last week and the week before.

“We were perhaps a little bit lucky to snatch the win at Quins but the performance from that game flowed into last week.

“We were a lot better in terms of our attitude in the way we tried to play and our accuracy.

“It all stemmed from that Stoop game and we’re looking forward to taking that mindset into this weekend.

“Hopefully we can come away with the win.”
