Day was lying prone for some time before being forced off the field in the 58th minute of the Aviva Premiership clash at Adams Park on Sunday afternoon.

Saints were 9-3 up at the time but things unravelled as Wasps went on to score two quickfire tries to claim a 20-16 success.

There were concerns that Day’s withdrawal would be more than a short-term issue for his side, but Mallinder says it was an impact injury rather than anything more serious.

“He’s all right,” said the Saints director of rugby, who smiled as he added: “He got a bit of a stinger, but he’ll live.”
