The 33-year-old boasts a wealth of experience at the highest level and arrives at Franklin’s Gardens from PRO14 outfit Glasgow Warriors and Super6 side Ayrshire Bulls. He had been available for both clubs this season on a partnership deal.

Reid travels south of the border having won 41 test caps for Scotland since making his debut in 2014.

He played in two Rugby World Cups, in England in 2015 and also in Japan earlier this season, and was part of the Scotland team that won the Calcutta Cup in 2018 by beating England at Murrayfield.

The 6’ 2”, 18-stone front rower has previously spent two seasons in English rugby with London Irish from 2016, before returning to hometown club Ayr and featuring in all four of Scotland’s matches at the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

Saints have been looking for cover at loosehead prop since Alex Waller ruptured an Achilles tendon in training at the end of last month and was ruled out for the season.

And Reid, who helped Glasgow win the PRO12 in 2015, is delighted to be offered the opportunity to ply his trade at Franklin's Gardens.

“I’m really excited to get this opportunity to return to the Gallagher Premiership and contribute towards what will hopefully be a successful season for Northampton Saints,” said the Scotsman.

“This is a club steeped in history and pedigree, and the team have played some quality rugby already this year, showing they are genuine contenders for silverware.

"So I’m looking forward to getting into training straight away and putting my hand up for selection.”
