MEN'S RUGBY: Sharp Frost kicks Scouts to narrow win over Borough

George Barrett scored Scouts’ opening try, racing down the right and eventually dotting down in the corner.

Boro fought back hard and after several offloads they released their winger for a converted try and the lead.

Although they had lost three players due to injuries Scouts were fighting back and Adam Frost missed a penalty before regaining the lead with a further attempt just prior to the break.

The second half started with both teams trying to gain an advantage and it was the visitors that got the upper hand with two unconverted tries to go 17-8 up midway through the half.

Scouts knew they were going to have to graft and they were rewarded when the ball was fed out to Iain Simmons to stretch himself over the whitewash.

Frost added the extras and with five minutes to go, he slotted a long range penalty to put the hosts in front again.

And they held out for the narrow victory.

Meanwhile, Scouts IIs lost at Wellingborough while the IIIs defeated Mens Own at home and the U18s won away at Rushden & Higham.

Peterborough IIIs 60 Heathens 26

HEATHENS scored four tries, but were beaten comprehensively by Peterborough IIIs in a Youngs London Stout merit table fixture at Fengate.

John Marlow scored twice, with Mark Evans and Damian McColgan all dotted down, but it wasn’t enough for the away side.

Sandbach 41 Towcestrians 39

In a topsy-turvy game which produced no less than seven yellow cards and had both teams down to 12 men for periods, it was the hosts who came through with the narrowest of National League 3 Midlands wins.

The first half belonged to Tows, who led 32-10 at the break thanks to tries from Keiran Frost, Matt Bodily, Yuon Skelton and Alex Chalcraft, with Ben Roe kicking well.

But despite another score from Bodily, Tows were to surrender a 22-point lead, with a Sandbach conversion going over with the last kick of the game to win it for the hosts.

Casuals 31 St Ives 19

Casuals hosted St Ives with only one point separating the sides in Midlands 3 East South.

And it was to be the Northampton side who came out on top, building on a 12-5 half-time lead to secure a fine victory.

James Franklin was named man of the match for his try-scoring display.

Meanwhile, Casuals IIs continued their great form, beating a strong Kettering IIIs side 29-0. Man of the match went to Joe Wroczynski.

The IIIs were beaten 19-5 by a strong Kettering IVs, where man of the match award went to young Kieran Davies.

Old Northamptonians 21 Newbold on Avon 25

OLD NORTHAMPTONIANS battled back from 25-7 down to claim a losing bonus point from this Midlands 1 East 
battle.

Newbold have now won all eight league games this season and sit top, eight points clear of second-placed ONs.

With 50 minutes, gone, Newbold were cruising to victory, but ONs fought back.

Alex Crofts got ONs’ first two tries, with Jon Liburd scoring their third.

Rory Seymour added the conversion on each occasion to ensure Newbold would win by just four points.

Olney 34 Stamford 5

OLNEY easily saw off Stamford in this Midlands 2 East South encounter.

Tries came from Jeremiah Shields (2), Jake Deighton, Keegan Anderson and Brandon Kerr.
