Reports in France had suggested that a big-money bid had been made for the player, with Saints reported to be offering the player in excess of £500,000 a year.

However, the Chron understands Madigan, who currently has a year remaining on his contract at Bordeaux-Begles, is not on the club’s radar.

Saints have previously been linked with Aaron Cruden, George Ford, Dan Biggar and Pat Lambie.

Bids for Biggar and Lambie were blocked by the Welsh and South African rugby unions respectively.

While Montpellier were able to play a large fee for Cruden and Ford preferred to move to Leicester.

Saints still have options in the bid to replace JJ Hanrahan, who is moving to Munster this summer.

But Madigan is not a player they are pursuing.
