"It was nice for us not to be pulling our hair out!" - Boyd reflects on Saints' big win at Worcester

Chris Boyd enjoyed his afternoon at Sixways

The black, green and gold were involved in a real tussle during the first half and were fortunate to be 8-7 up heading into half-time.

But Ollie Sleightholme scored in the final play of the first 40 minutes and Saints ran riot during a sensational second period.

Boyd's side racked up a total of nine tries, with Sleightholme scoring four of them.

And after so many close encounters during recent weeks and months, Boyd was happy to have so much breathing space late on as Saints headed home after a massive 62-14 win.

"It was certainly nice for us not to be pulling our hair out in the last 15 minutes!" Boyd said.

"We've got through the middle of games and not closed them out so to finish the game in the way we did here was good for us.

"I've been on the back end of games like this in my career and when the floodgates open nothing seems to go right so it's good for the side that's got all the energy and momentum.

"It was a tough place for them to be, but good for us."

Worcester were looking like a real threat in the first half, but the failure to take their chances came back to bite them.

"We let them dominate the early exchanges and they got across the line effectively, getting metres," Boyd said.

"Our defence was poor initially, but once we got on top of them the floodgates started to open a wee bit, particularly when we they were numbers down at that was unfortunate for them really."

Saints had so many superb individual showings, including an incredible display from the bench from young back Tommy Freeman, who came on for the injured George Furbank close to the half-hour mark.

And Boyd said: "Tommy's a very talented young man.

"He had to go in at centre at one point but he's played a lot of his football at school at 10 so we can drop him into different positions and there wasn't a whole bunch of pressure.

"We ended up with a half-back (Tom James) on the wing so it was a bit of a mix but the fact we showed composure and racked up a few points was pleasing."
