International round-up: Saints star Hutchinson scores in fine Scotland win

It was a super Saturday for Saints centre Rory Hutchinson as he scored in a fine success for Scotland in Argentina.

At the end of a day packed full of rugby across the globe, Scotland delivered a stellar showing as they beat Los Pumas 47-38 in Cordoba.

Hutchinson was at the heart of it as he wore the 13 shirt and helped his team to click as they claimed seven tries.

The Saints star grabbed one of his own in the 36th minute as he was named man of the match.

Former Saints prop Elliot Millar Mills, who has now joined Newcastle Red Bulls, was forced off with an injury.

Next up for Hutchinson and Scotland is a game against South Africa in Pretoria on Saturday (kick-off 4.40pm UK time).

Elsewhere, there was disappointment for Saints' England men as they were beaten 45-21 by South Africa at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

Alex Coles did manage to get on the scoresheet, but Tommy Freeman was shown a yellow card for a high tackle with 10 minutes to go.

"If you look at the Tommy Freeman one you see a slight timing error, there wasn't anything malicious or reckless there,” said England boss Steve Borthwick.

"He was trying to make a tackle and he was apologetic for the tackling height.”

Like Coles and Freeman, Fin Smith also started, while Henry Pollock and Alex Mitchell came off the bench.

Former Saints skipper George Furbank had to withdraw from the match at the last minute as he was suffering from appendicitis.

Furbank had to have surgery and had to stay in South Africa to recover.

The full-back, who has joined Harlequins this summer, will play no further part in England's Nations Championship campaign.

After last Saturday's game, Borthwick said: "He (Furbank) went into hospital on Friday evening with abdominal pain, he had surgery on Saturday morning on his appendix and he is still in hospital recovering.

"I spoke with him earlier, he is gutted and he will miss the next couple of weeks. He will be delayed in South Africa to fly back at a later date."

Next up for England is a game against Fiji at Hill Dickinson Stadium, the home of Everton Football Club, in Liverpool on Saturday (kick-off 2.10pm).

Two Saints players were in action for Italy last Saturday as summer signing Malik Faissal started on the wing and Danilo Fischetti lined up at loosehead.

Italy were eventually beaten 27-10 by Japan in Tokyo, but it was still a special day for Faissal as he made his senior international debut, having previously shone for Italy Under-20s.

Next up for Italy is a game against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday.

England Under-20s made it two wins from two in the World Rugby Junior World Championship last Thursday as they beat the USA 68-40.

Jack Lewis started for England Under-20s for the first time, and the Saints flanker took just three minutes to score against the USA.

Saints prop Oliver Scola also got on the scoresheet later in the game, as did Saints scrum-half Jonny Weimann.

Sonny Tonga'uiha started at tighthead, while Hugh Shields, like Weimann, was among the replacements.
