The Frenchman joined the Toffees in the summer, making the move from Ligue 1 side Metz, and has been a member of the Goodison Park club’s Under-23 squad.

Mathis made his senior debut for Metz last season, making two substitute appearances in matches against Lyon and Bordeaux, having impressed for their second team in the third tier of French football.

A product of Lyon’s academy, Mathis joined Metz in 2015, and for Metz II, Mathis scored five times in 25 appearances.

Mathis becomes the Cobblers’ eighth signing of the January transfer window, and is available for selection for Saturday’s Sky Bet League One clash with Rochdale at Sixfields.

The signing of the Everton man does mean that the Cobblers now have six loan signings, and only five are allowed in any match day squad.

The loan players at Sixfields are Mathis, Chris Long, Matt Grimes, Hildeberto Pereira, Gboly Ariyibi and Regan Poole.
