Biggar salutes Saints team-mate Furbank and backs Hutchinson

Dan Biggar believes Saints team-mate George Furbank is capable of excelling 'anywhere across the backline'.

And the Wales fly-half says another exciting Saints back, Rory Hutchinson, should be a key part of the Scotland squad in the upcoming Six Nations.

Full-back Furbank will hope to get the call from England, who name their 28-man squad on Friday, as he has started to return to form, even excelling at 10 in a Champions Cup clash with Leinster in December.

And Biggar said: "The best way I can describe Furbs is that he's a very talented rugby player.

"You can play him at 10, 15 and probably that second playmaker at 12 and he'd make a good fist of it.

"He's a very good player with a good skill-set, good temperament and he's very brave as well.

"I thought Furbs was excellent at short notice at Leinster.

"I know Eddie (Jones) mentioned about playing him at 10, but you could play him pretty much anywhere across the backline and you'd get a good performance out of him.

"He's that good a rugby player.

"He takes a fair bit of stick among the boys but as a rugby player, he's pretty good at it."

When asked about Scotland centre Hutchinson, Biggar said: "My own personal opinion for what it's worth is that Scotland should pick Rory at 12 and stick with him for the Six Nations.

"You don't want to pick Rory for one game and if he makes half a mistake he's out again.

"We're playing Scotland on the second weekend of the Six Nations and the person I wouldn't want lining up against me is Rory Hutchinson, along with Finn Russell's skills as well.

"The way he makes a second playmaker look so easy is a skill in istelf.

"I would like to see him get backed to say 'you've got the ability, you're in the side and you've proved it over the past couple of years, go and do what you can do and show everyone how good you are'.

"You know you may get the odd defensive mistake from Rory and he knows that's something he's got to work on, but with the ball in hand and with the game Scotland will want to play, I'd be more worried about Rory playing against us than perhaps some other players."

Biggar has some huge games ahead for club and country, and he would also like to stake a claim for British & Irish Lions selection.

"No doubt," he said. "In the world we're living at the moment, there's so much before that but what I'd like to do is put myself in contention.

"The best way I've answered it before is that I'd love to be involved and have another go.

"The last time I was involved in it, it was such a great experience and the pinnacle of any rugby player's career, but you have to worry about your next game, whatever it is.

"Even if you're playing well, selection is down to one or two or three people and if they don't fancy you, there's not much you can do about it.

"For me, I want to play as well as I can for the next few months and put my name in the hat as oppose to being edgy or thinking I've got to do everything right to be in the mix.

"There are so many good players around and even if I play well, that might not be enough either."
