Pace bowler Harry Conway staying on in Northampton as overseas player cover

Head coach Darren Lehmann has confirmed that Harry Conway will be staying in the UK as cover for a possible international call for Nathan McSweeney later in the summer.

Pace bowler Conway has been a huge hit at the cinch County Ground during two stints over the past two seasons.

He played six times in 2025, but has had an even bigger impact this summer, playing eight County Championship matches and taking 34 wickets at 23.79 apiece.

Conway was due to go to home to Australia, but will now stay on in case McSweeney is called up by Australia A for their matches in India later in the season, or even the Test team for their home dates with Bangladesh in mid-August.

And it means if McSweeney does get an international call, Conway can step in and team up with India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who will arrive in the UK in the next couple of weeks to play for Northants in the second half of the campaign.

"We are keeping Harry around for that reason, with the possibility of Nathan getting Australia A selection and all that," said Lehmann, talking to BBC Northampton.

"We could end up having him and Uzzy (Chahal) playing in the same game, which would be fantastic for not only for our team, but for our younger bowlers and batters to learn from.

"He will hang around and he has been excellent for us.

"We are really pleased with all of our players."

Conway was initially brought to the UK to play in the opening six matches of the County Championship campaign, but then stayed on for the two games against Gloucestershire and Durham.

In the first window for the Vitality Blast, he turned out in the Northants Cricket League for Kislingbury Temperance, and it could be he does the same again to keep ticking over.
