Northampton teenage golfer Lila Bisset played a key role as Team England Under-16s claimed a 16-14 comeback win in their annual international match with Ireland in at the Burnham & Berrow Golf Club in Somerset.

The Northamptonshire County Golf Club ace was part of the mixed team that battled back from 9.5-8.5 down to claim an excellent victory.

Bisset, who is 15, enjoyed her best day on the Saturday as she first teamed up with Emily Peaford in the Saturday Morning Foursomes to win 2&1 against Irish pair Kayleigh Mulholland and Ella Cantwell.

In the first singles session, Bisset claimed half a point as she tied over 18 holes with Mulholland.

That meant England had work to do going into the Sunday Singles, and although Bisset slipped to a narrow 2&1 loss to Ella Cantwell, her team-mates turned things round as they won the session 7.5-4.5 to clinch the overall match victory.

There were also wins for the boys and girls’ teams, with England winning both 8-7 overall.

England Golf men’s assistant performance manager Jamie O'Connor said: “It was a great morning for us on Sunday, as we managed to overturn the deficit and go on to win the competition, in what was a fiercely competitive encounter.

"The weekend was filled with some spectacular golf, with the two nations' best young players on display.

“England Girls’ Summer Carash and Emily Peaford finished the weekend with unbeaten records across their three matches played, with Emily boasting three fantastic wins.

“Annabel Peaford, Ben Sessions and Cameron Mukherjee all managed to win both their singles matches, and it turned out to be a truly great weekend, played in tremendous spirit.”
