CRICKET SPECIAL: Hildreth blast boosts Stony while Lees hammers brilliant ton

The top flight summer got underway at the weekend, with the first of three double headers for all the teams, as they bid to qualify for the semi-finals.

And after week one, only Stony and Posh can boast 100 per cent records.

Stony hosted both Oundle Town and Old Northamptonians at Ostlers Lane, and won both games, althought the first clash against Oundle went to the final ball in a dramatic finish.

Mark Hodgson hit 77 from 60 balls for Oundle, cracking seven fours and four sixes, but there was little support as his side was restricted to 159 for nine.

That very nearly proved to be enough, but Stony got over the line at 161 for four off the final ball of the innings.

They looked to be heading for defeat as they needed 15 to win from the final three balls - but step forward former Somerset man James Hildreth who hit a four and two sixes to see his side home with an unbeaten 58 from just 27 balls.

The win over ONs was a much more straightforward affair.

ONs were restricted to 155 for six in their 20 overs, with Matt Vesty top-scoring with 32 and Sayan Chatterjee taking two for 44.

Michael Wells then decided he wasn't hanging about as he clubbed 87 not out from 42 balls, including nine fours and five sixes.

With support coming at the other end from Hildreth (31no from 19), Stony raced to victory at 156 for two in just 12.2 overs.

Karanpal Singh claimed a hat-trick as Peterborough thrashed hosts Loddington & Mawsley by 10 wickets.

Loddington had no answer to the Peterborough bowling attack as they were rushed out for just 37 in 11.5 overs, with KP Singh finishing with four for three and Jaskaran Singh claiming three for 13.

Town knocked off the runs in just 5.3 overs.

Earlier, Josh Smith had led the way with 53 from 49 balls to steer Peterborough to 166 for seven against Geddington.

The modest total proved to be more than enough for victory as Geddington were bowled out for 139 in 19.5 overs, despite Jack Lees' 49.

Lees was later the star man for Geddington in their other match that saw them beat Rushden & Higham by 71 runs.

Lees' brilliant 133 was the backone of Geddington's 196 for two, and that was too many for Rushden who replied with 125 for seven, with Jordan Baxter hitting an unbeaten 55 and Joshua Knight taking four for 21.

Northants batter Rob Keogh turned out for Kislingbury Temperance as they played out a dramatic tie with Finedon Dolben.

Keogh hit an unbeaten 71 from just 34 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes, and Zaakir Khawaja made 72 not out as Kisl posted 200 for three.

Finedon responded well and needed 10 to win from the final over, but they fell just short with Mark Wolstenholme taking two off the final ball to level the scores.

Earlier, Sean Davis hit 67 and Ewan Cox 50.

Elsehwere, there were wins for Finedon, ONs, Oundle and Overstone Park, while Rushden & Higham Town and Loddington & Mawsley both suffered double defeats.
