GOLF: Katie Amos edges to win at Northampton GC

Forty five points was a magnificent Silver Division winning total in the third round of Shires Junior Golf Tour as Katie Amos took the honours at Northampton.

With more than 100 young golfers taking part, the Northants County member was a model of consistency as she bagged six gross pars and 12 bogies to nudge one point ahead of Holly Waterfield (Lutterworth), with home club member Ben Lavender in third on 43.

Half a dozen gross birdies were on the Gold Division winning scorecard of Jordan Darnell (40) as the Kettering member triumphed by two from Northants County’s Millie Billson (38). Whittlebury Park’s Natasha Ainsley-Thomas was next on 37.

In the Bronze Division, Wellingborough’s James Sales had to settle for the runners-up prize for the second time this season as he lost out on countback to Beedles Lake’s Thomas Dziuba after both posted 44 points. Cameron Reeves (Overstone Park) finished third on 43. Par-par-par-birdie-birdie was the amazing finish to Jadon Pham’s round in the Diamond Division as the Overstone youngster bagged all the plaudits.

The eight-year-old smashed a brilliant score of 44 points over nine holes to finish four ahead of home club member Callum Sainsbury in the third round.

Overstone club-mate Elise Warden carded the joint fourth best score of 22 points in the Copper Division, with Lottie Heaver (Brampton Heath) and Elliot Strickland (Northampton).

Spaces available on coaching day

A handful of spaces are still available to take part in the first Northampton Golf Ltd Coaching Day on Sunday (April 17) at Northants County.

The sessions, which are aimed at Category One and Category Two players who would welcome the opportunity to improve their game and play some really competitive golf. The coaching dates are: Sunday, April 17 - Northants County; Saturday, May 21 - Peterborough Milton; Saturday, June 25 - Wellingborough; Saturday, August 6 - Northampton.

Each day includes; Coffee and bacon rolls on arrival and briefing, 3½ hours coaching session with county coaches Shane Rose, Nick Soto and Adam Myers, Lunch, an 18-hole competition with an Order of Merit running across the series and prize giving.

The cost for each session is £60 or you can save £40 by booking all four events for £200.
