Former Cobblers player Wilkin takes charge at Brackley

Wilkin, who made 79 appearances for Northampton between 1990 and 1994, replaces Jon Brady as boss at St James’ Park.

Former Chelsea and Leicester City defender Frank Sinclair had taken temporary charge of Brackley following Brady’s resignation earlier this month.

Sinclair claimed three draws in as many games, but the Saints have decided that Wilkin is the man they want to take them forward.

The 47-year-old previously enjoyed stints as manager at Nuneaton Town and Wrexham, but was sacked by the Welsh club after defeat in the FA Trophy final in March.

“The management board are delighted to announce the appointment of Kevin Wilkin as first team manager with immediate effect,” a Brackley statement read.

“He brings a wealth of managerial expertise from previous challenges and we are confident that he will achieve our short and long term goals.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Frank Sinclair for his professional attitude in managing the team through the interim period of selecting a new manager. We wish him every success for the future.

“We look forward to this new chapter in our history and to exciting times that lay ahead.”
