Sinclair has been playing intermittently for the Saints since the end of last season when he answered an SOS call from Brady to help keep the club in National League North.

The experience of the 43-year-old, who spent eight years at Chelsea before joining Leicester for £2million in 1998, proved crucial and Brackley did manage to stay up.

But despite a host of new arrivals, they have made a slow start to the current campaign, amassing just seven points from the first eight games.

Saturday’s 4-2 home defeat against North Ferriby United was the final straw for Brady, who called time on his stay at St James’ Park after six and a half years in charge.

And Sinclair will now be asked to steer the ship through choppy waters.

A statement on the club website read: “Frank Sinclair has been appointed to take temporary charge of the first team until a replacement can be found.

“Applications for the managers position will close at midnight on Friday, September 11.

“The club would also like to take this opportunity to place on record its thanks to assistant manager Darren Collins who has also stepped down.

“He also did a fantastic job supporting Jon and the club and we wish him well for his future in the game.”
