‘You’ve not seen my style of play’: Andy Whing makes two big Brackley Town promises ahead of 2026/27

Brackley Town boss Andy Whing has promised athleticism and dynamism will be added to the team next season as he seeks to rebuild his squad over the summer.

The Saints have Kyle Morrison as the only contracted player ahead of 2026/27 as it stands, while decisions still haven’t been communicated for four of the five offered new deals.

Zak Lilly was one of those Brackley were keen to keep but the central defender has decided to rejoin former club AFC Telford United instead.

Whing came under a lot of fire at the end of last campaign, and understandably so given he lost 12 of his 16 games in charge, winning just one.

But Whing couldn’t play anything close to his preferred three-at-the-back system.

“It was difficult (coming in mid-season) and you’ve probably not seen my style of play,” Whing told @BrackleyTownFC.

“We couldn’t really change formation, both right-backs and both left-backs were injured so we had to kind of really fall into a formation and a style of play.

“I thought we got better in terms of on the ball through the last part of the season. Off the ball, we were really poor.”

Whing has been working hard in the off-season to build player shortlists, alongside his new recruitment staff – Joe Taylor and Gareth Dean.

Although approaches cannot be made to players contracted at other clubs until June, Whing is hopeful of acquiring many of his top targets.

“Next season, we’ll be really athletic and dynamic – whether that’s pressing or on the ball as well,” Whing added.

“What’s really important is the pitch has been relayed, some fantastic work to make it pristine. That will help us with our style of play.”

Delving deeper into his philosophy, Whing added: “I want to see wingers, I want to see us getting at players. It will be a possession-based game and ultimately we want to score goals.

“If you look at who gets promoted, they’ve always got the top goalscorers. That’s what Brackley have lacked in the past couple of years in terms of goals and scorers.

“We need midfielders chipping in with goals, set-pieces we need to get miles better at. There are loads of things we’ve got to improve.”
