The Southend United central defender has signed on loan at Sixfields until the end of the season, and Wilder is delighted to finally capture a player he initially tried to sign last summer.

And the Town boss says Prosser will not only add strength to the Cobblers on the field of play, but he will also have a positive influence in the changing room.

Asked what sort of player the Cobblers have signed, Wilder said: “Luke is a good size, he’s a good athlete, he has a good left foot and he has good experience behind him.

“As always, he has to fit into the mentality of what we are all about, he wants to do well for himself and the group.

“One of the advantages of being a manager for a few years, and Alan Knill the same, is that we know a hell of a lot of players.

“We know players that play at Southend, and know what he’s about in the changing room, and know what he’s about on the pitch.

“Over the period, we have done extensive background checks on all of the players, so we know through myself, through Alan, and through calls that we make that Luke is a really good kid.

“He’s not a disruptive type and wants to win, he’s good in the changing room and will definitely add to the group going into the second half of the season.”
