Town have a strong core of players already under contract for next season but manager Jon Brady will be wanting to add both depth and quality in preparation for the step up. Which positions do Cobblers most need to strengthen? And where are they well-stocked? We go through the squad with a fine-tooth comb to find out...
5. Central midfield
Current first-team players under contract: Shaun McWilliams, Jack Sowerby, Ben Fox, Will Hondermarck. Do Cobblers need to sign a new central midfielder this summer? Potentially. It's not a priority but Brady may want more depth to cope with the demands of League One. A replacement for Marc Leonard - preferably Leonard himself - would be ideal. Photo: Pete Norton
6. Attacking midfield / number 10 role
Current first-team players under contract: Mitch Pinnock. Do Cobblers need to sign a new attacking midfielder this summer? Yes. Others can and have played this role - Shaun McWilliams, Sam Hoskins and Ben Fox at times - but Town will need more creative quality as they step up a division Photo: Pete Norton
7. Winger
Current first-team players under contract: Sam Hoskins, Mitch Pinnock. Do Cobblers need to sign a new winger this summer? Yes. They are short on bodies in wide areas after the return of several loanees. More pace, power and quality will be needed in League One. Photo: Pete Norton
8. Striker
Current first-team players under contract: Louis Appéré, Danny Hylton, Sam Hoskins. Do Cobblers need to sign a new striker this summer? Yes. Given Hylton's struggles last season, Cobblers require someone to chip in with more goals and help ease the burden on Appéré and Hoskins, especially with Kieron Bowie returning to Fulham.
