He netted the winner at Macclesfield Town, scored twice in defeat at Walsall and then bagged another brace when Cobblers won 3-0 at Grimsby Town.

Morton, who's also impressed with his work ethic and energy off the ball, is the third Northampton player to be nominated for a monthly award this season, following Nicky Adams (January) and Scott Wharton (November).

He'll face competition from Cheltenham full-back Chris Hussey, Port Vale centre-back Leon Legge and Grimsby striker Charles Vernam, who scored a magnificent goal to complete a hat-trick at Colchester United last month.

As for the manager award, John Askey, Mark Bonner, Michael Duff and Richie Wellens have all been nominated.
