Cobblers players and staff have opted to forgo the bonuses they would have been due for reaching the League Two play-offs this season with manager Keith Curle declaring 'we're all in this together'.

After dozens of fans messaged Northampton to say they will not be asking for refunds on their season tickets despite missing out on the final nine games of the campaign, players and staff want to show their own support to the club by not adding to the 'financial burden' during the coronavirus pandemic.

A substantial amount would usually be paid out to players and staff for reaching the play-offs but, under the current circumstances and with the club not generating any income, they felt it was the right decision to turn down that money.

"It's fantastic news if the play-offs do take place but it'll be a substantial cost to the football club for us to be able to compete in it," explained Curle.

"The players and coaching staff know that and that comes from the clarity from the top of the club because we understand it'll be a substantial cost and we want to help out.

"There's been some horror stories from within the game but we're aware of what goes on at our club and we know we're at a very good club.

"It's an opportunity for the players and the coaching to say that we know it'll be a burden on the club and we don't want to add to that burden - we're in this together and we want to compete together so we don't want those additional finances to play a part.

"That all comes from the clarity and the integrity that the football club has shown and we're willing to forego those bonuses because we want to be a part of it."
