Leading out the Cobblers at Wembley Stadium in Monday's League Two play-off final would 'mean everything' to skipper Charlie Goode.

Barring a late injury, or a positive coronavirus test, Goode will again take up the familiar role of Town's captain on the pitch when they face Exeter City in the battle for promotion.

Goode, who signed for the Cobblers last summer following a short loan stint, is still relatively young for a captain at the age of 24 but he's impressed everyone while wearing the armband this season.

Now he faces perhaps the biggest day of his career so far.

"It'll mean everything," said Goode. "As a player growing up the one thing you want to do is play at Wembley. Obviously there's no fans but to lead a football league club out in a play-off final at Wembley will be a special moment for myself and my family.

"It's gutting that they can't be there to see it but I know for a fact that they'll be with all the fans and cheering us on from home. I just want to be lifting that trophy come the end of it - I don't want a sad day at Wembley, I want it to be one to remember."

As Goode alludes to, it's sure to be an odd experience with no roar to greet the teams as they emerge from the tunnel.

"It'll be a strange feeling to have no fans there," he added. "We train in the stadium every day so we're used to our surroundings and we've also had two important game with no fans and now we have one at Wembley.

"Obviously it'll be strange again, especially at Wembley as it's a much bigger stadium, and you'll be able to hear a lot more, but come the end of that day if I can be lifting the trophy, that's all I want to be doing.

"It's a massive game and these are the games you want to be involved in."
