Wellens: 'Fragile' Leyton Orient may 'change the way we play' ahead of vital Northampton clash
Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens admits he might have to rethink how his team approaches games in order to survive this season following one win in 10.
Orient are 22nd in League One, a place below Northampton, ahead of this weekend’s hugely important clash at Sixfields. Wellens’ side, beaten play-off finalists last season, have not won any of their last five games and were defeated 3-1 by Plymouth in midweek.

"We’re making too many individual errors and our set-pieces aren’t good enough,” said Wellens. “I’ll take responsibility because I want us to play and at the moment we might need to change and not play out from the back.
"We’re fragile in terms of our confidence and we’re letting things affect us, but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves and we need to pick ourselves up and make sure we go again. These are all phrases but the players need to look in the mirror and work smarter and it’s important we stick together. Tuesday wasn’t great but we need seven wins and we don’t care how they come.
"I want to be a good football coach and I want to see my teams play but with the amount of upheaval and transition we’ve had, it’s probably me that needs to change my mindset and the way I want to play.
"Plymouth are a good example, I think they have some really good players but they were struggling at the start of the season so they changed the way they played. They play forward and land on second balls and now they look a really good team.”
O’s goalkeeper Toby Oluwayemi, who joined the club on loan from Celtic in January, came off injured in midweek, with Wellens adding: "There’s no update. It’s his ankle and we don’t know how serious it is. Our luck with goalkeepers at the moment is horrific.”
