Watson still on a high from 'special night' at Wembley

Two weeks on from Cobblers' trouncing of Exeter City in the League Two play-off final at Wembley Stadium, midfielder Ryan Watson still hasn't quite come back down to earth.

The Cobblers marched their way back into the third tier by thrashing the Grecians 4-0 at Wembley, with Watson himself among the scorers.

He broke the deadlock on 11 minutes before Callum Morton, Sam Hoskins and Andy Williams completed a famous victory and ensured the Cobblers will be in League One next season.

"I look back on it with some amazing memories," said Watson. "It's a couple of weeks ago now but it was such a special night for everyone involved and it's something I will remember for the rest of my life.

"It's settled down a bit and I think when we get back to training and get back to on the pitch, we know we'll have another job on our hands and we'll make sure we're focused on that.

"We're all eager to get back at it so it's just about putting stepping stones in place to go and have another good season next year."

Watson had missed a penalty in the first leg of the semi-final against Cheltenham Town but he more than made amends by firing home the opener in the final.

"It was a dream to score at Wembley," he added. "I'll never forget it, especially after missing the penalty in the first leg!

"It was a special night but all that has gone now and we've got to kick-on and progress even further."

Striker Harry Smith echoed Watson's thoughts, adding: "I think it's probably set in a bit now, but we had our celebration and it'll always be something we remember.

"I think a few of the lads are away at the moment but we've got a get-together up north planned next week as we've got mostly northern-based lads so we'll enjoy that, but I'm already looking forward to next season."
