Cobblers midfielder Ryan Watson admits he's 'disappointed' not to have scored more goals this season after his terrific strike against MK Dons on Saturday.

The 27-year-old, whose only previous goal this season came in the Carabao Cup on the opening day, scored within 46 seconds of his introduction at Stadium MK when cutting in from the right and thumping across goalkeeper Andrew Fisher into the bottom corner.

"It was nice to get on the score sheet," said Watson. "It's something that I've been disappointed about in terms of not chipping in with enough goals this season.

"That's now a start for me and I've got to add to it and I think we've all got to contribute more in front of goal."

Watson was joined on the scoresheet by Fraser Horsfall and Peter Kioso on Saturday but, despite that, Cobblers were beaten 4-3 after two late goals.

"I think, as a collective, it was probably a lapse of concentration and maybe a bit of naivety because we haven't been in the lead going into the last 10 minutes too often lately," Watson added.

"It's something we will have to look back on when we watch the video and address it because obviously we're all very disappointed - we felt like we should have got three points, never mind coming away with nothing.

"We'll see where we went wrong and what we can improve but there were definitely a lot of positives to come out of the game."

Cobblers can leapfrog Swindon and Rochdale if they beat both teams this week.

"We can take a lot into Tuesday from Saturday," Watson continued. "I think we've got to be hard on ourselves because we are disappointed to come away with nothing.

"We know we can still improve and it's a big week coming up but we'll go into both games looking to get maximum points, as we always do. We know we're in a relegation battle and we're desperate for points and desperate to work hard for each other."
