Matty Warburton says he's 'really excited' for the season ahead after swapping Northampton for Yeovil Town.

The 28-year-old is into his second season at the Cobblers but he will spend the rest of it on loan at the Glovers to get more game-time.

"I'm really excited to be here," said Warburton. "It's a great football club and the manager seemed really keen to get me in - he was very enthusiastic.

"I've had a number of phone calls with him and he sold the club to me. I want to be part of it and help get this club promoted.

"I've had a couple of recent promotions with Stockport and then Northampton through the play-offs. so hopefully I can bring that mentality here and get the club back to where they belong.

"It takes a lot of hard work from everybody, the fans included, to win promotion. Ultimately, you've got to perform on the pitch and that's our job as players to do that."

Yeovil have started the season with two draws in the National League as they target a return to the EFL.

"It's a long way from where I'm from so I don't know too much about the club but everyone has been very positive and it's a good opportunity for me," added Warburton.

"Hopefully I can bring a bit of creativity and create chances for team-mates and score some goals as well. I've been keeping a close eye on what's been going on and I'm really looking forward to getting started."
