Cobblers forward Matty Warburton has left the club and joined Yeovil Town on loan for the rest of the season.

The 28-year-old, who caught the eye with 40 goals in a calendar year in 2018, made the jump from part-time football last summer when he signed for the Cobblers on a two-year deal from Stockport County.

But despite starting well, including a first ever pro goal against Swansea City in the League Cup, Warburton has struggled for regular game-time, particularly during the second half of last season when he made just one start in all competitions.

A spate of injuries opened up a space in the side at the start of the current campaign and he started well with a couple of smartly-taken goals against Cardiff and AFC Wimbledon.

However, a number of players are now back from injury and with manager Keith Curle also strengthening his squad by signing forwards Jack Sowerby and Danny Rose, Warburton was set to drop down the pecking order.

Not content to sit on the bench or miss out on the squad altogether, he has taken the opportunity to move elsewhere by heading to Yeovil Town, who are 15th in the National League after starting the season with two draws.

Warburton is into the final year of his contract at the Cobblers.
