Cobblers boss Keith Curle was thrilled with his side's performance after their polished and convincing 3-0 away victory at Grimsby Town on Saturday.

The Mariners were in good form under Ian Holloway, winning three of their last four, but that run came to a shuddering halt when outplayed and well beaten by the Cobblers.

Charlie Goode's powerful early strike set things up before Callum Morton took his tally to five goals in six games with one in either half as Town emphatically returned to winning ways.

"It was a really good win and performance," said Curle.

"We showed them respect that they merited with their recent results but it's then about us and what we do and you have to get the fundamentals right.

"You've got to make sure you have that level of respect and that understanding and platform to work on and I thought we did that very well today.

"We knew we could cause some problems but we had to make sure we stopped them from playing and we did.

"They showed us a bit of respect by changing their personnel around and that might have impacted them a bit and disrupted their rhythm but that rhythm was nullified by our desire to get close to them and stop them from playing.

"We got a deserved lead and everybody would say that we've lost leads before this season but the best way to defend a two-goal lead is by going and getting a third and we did that."
