Williams spent two years at the Cobblers and finished top scorer in his first season with 12 goals before adding another nine during Town's promotion-winning campaign in 2019/20.

He also scored the final goal of Monday's play-off final victory against Exeter City.

Following his departure, he said: "I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone involved at Northampton Town Football Club.

"It's been an incredible end to my time as a Cobbler despite the terrible times we are all facing in the world at the moment.

"Firstly, huge credit must go to the chairman and everyone in running the club so well throughout this time which set us up perfectly for promotion.

"The staff, from top to bottom, have worked tirelessly for the club's success.

"A thank you must go to all the players that I've had the pleasure to play with during my two years with Northampton. I have met some really good people, as well as good players.

"Finally, of course, thank you to all the fans for their constant support, from my slow start on the pitch to my final goal with my final touch.

"The fans have been amazing and I will always feel grateful and blessed to have had the Cobblers support. All the very best for the future."
