Town will go into Monday night’s play-off final at Wembley (ko 7.30pm) as slight underdogs, due to the fact the Grecians finished seven points better off than the Cobblers in the curtailed league two table.

Exeter lost on five fewer occasions than the Cobblers, but interestingly the also scored fewer and conceded more goals than Keith Curle’s side.

Honours were even in the league matches between the sides last term, with Exeter winning 3-2 at St James Park in December, and the Cobblers claiming a 2-0 victory when the teams met at the PTS on February 22.

Morton says that confidence is high in the Town camp following their stupendous 3-0 semi-final win at Cheltenham Town on Monday, and feels that performance proves they don’t have to fear their Devon opponents in north London.

“We know we are more than a match for any team in this league when we are on it, as we showed against a Cheltenham side with the best defensive record in the league,” said Morton.

“We went into Monday’s game and put it on them, and we know we can do the same in the final, we know we have it in us.

“We just need to prepare ourselves between now and next Monday and hopefully we can perform again.”

Morton has played 11 times for Town since joining on loan from Championship side West Bromwich Albion, scoring seven goals, and he is looking forward to his first time playing at the national stadium.

“I can’t really put it into words what that means to me, and I can’t wait,” said the 20-year-old.

“It is the pinnacle to get a promotion, and to do it at Wembley is the best way to do it.

“It will be disappointing that we can’t have any fans there, but we didn’t have any in the game on Monday and we managed to come out on top.

“This all means everything to me.

“I am out on loan and this is what it’s all about, I love playing football, I love winning games, and the pinnacle is getting promoted.

“Hopefully we can go on and do that now.”
