Keith Curle.Keith Curle.
Keith Curle.

Was it the right decision? If so, what was the final straw? Should it have been made sooner? Or did he deserve more time?

Here's what Cobblers fans have been saying about the decision to sack manager Keith Curle....

"Correct decision. Not so much the league position, which is hardly a surprise given the lack of close season, limited budget etc. No clear pattern of play and the entertainment has been so poor that iFollow has become like a torture chamber."

@MarkJosiah

"Absolutely correct decision. I honestly don't mind getting relegated, just as long as we try to play some football & go out to win games. He was far too rigid with his formation which simply didn't work without Oliver & Morton. No plan B. Tactically out his depth at L1 level."

@javerill14

"Last night (Tuesday) was the turning point for a lot of fans. Unfortunately it didn't matter as to whether we played well or not - it always ended with zero goals. We also reverted to type after threatening to change the style. Losing games playing direct football is always game over."

@Richardtmk1978

"Should have let him have all of the easier games to come in Feb and make a decision in March. He deserved that much, sadly his style of football counted against him."

"Very grateful for winning promotion but I feel it was the right decision. Last night viewing was an absolute joke. Seems like we have gone backwards."

@philagius

"Don’t think it had to be done just yet but can see why it was. Think he deserved a lot more respect than a lot of fans were giving him and wish him all the best."

@ntfcjc

"Shame to see him go but had to be done. We were freefalling back to league 2. Appreciate what he’s done for the club he’s made good memories in tough times and always put the best interests of the club ahead of his own. Won’t forget his phone call to my grandad in lockdown."

@_CiaranMyers35

"Shame to see him go in some way he never truly got the respect he earned. Time will tell if it’s the right decision or not, buzzing for Jon and think the caretaker team could be a real hit."

"Correct decision. The football has been so negative most of the time which if we had been getting results we would have put up with for now. But when the brand of football is awful, your not winning and your not scoring goals or creating much you can't carry on with it any longer."

@tomfoster21

"Timing is spot on in my opinion. He earned the right for more time up until last night's horror show. We will always have Cheltenham and Wembley! All the best to him."

@dannybrothers

"Was with him till last night but that was the last straw for me. Good guy but not the right one to take us forward, sadly."

@Coops_Colin

"Correct decision 100%. If you take out the two games against Cheltenham and Exeter (giant red herrings), we have been awful for ages playing awful football. Oxford City away was the killer, picking a poor team, losing then going full strength in the Johnsons Paint trophy next up!"

"Goals win games and give you a fighting chance of surviving or thriving at any level. Our lack of goal threat is a major issue. I don’t know how you coach our recent “style”of play?"

@philntfc

"Right decision sadly. He was given last summer and Jan transfer window so no one can say he didn't have get a decent go at it but unfortunately it just hasn't worked out."

@SamWhit67161778

"Looked like could be turning a corner with performances against Lincoln and Accrington. But last night was absolutely terrible! And even in the better performances haven’t looked a real goal threat. So correct decision I think!"

@dans_ette

"The right decision. Any glimmer of hope was always masking the rate of decline. Pleased that the club acted instead of hoping things would turn. They wouldn't have turned."

"Correct decision. We were lucky to make the play offs and played out of our skin to win it. The highlight of a dreadful year for me and I thank Keith for that. However, the recruitment over the summer has been dreadful and sad to say it, but I think Keith needed to go...."

@thejman2001

"correct decision ive backed him all year but he had to go too reluctant to change things when they clearly weren't working and don't score enough goals although he still did a very good job and deserves respect for that and best wishes to him."

@LewisPerrin1

"Correct decision based on form and style of play. Nice guy and deserved the promotion on his CV, but was given a chance with his own players and simply didn't do well enough."

@ghamlyn27

"Let's face it, promotion was a nice surprise last season but it probably came too soon. As much as curle has done for the club, and we will be always be grateful for his work off the pitch, recent performances and playing style have been poor and it's time to refresh things."

"Sadly the right decision. Curle painted himself into a corner by his inflexibility. There are good players in the squad and a different attitude may get favorable results."

@wadeycobbler

"Always a shame when a manager who guides us to promotion then fails at the next level. He’s one of only 8 managers to win promotion with us and I’ll be forever thankful for that day in June. Sadly he lost his way this season and this outcome is inevitable."

@thornbororobin

"Sadly the right decision but wrong timing. How odd to back him in the transfer window and then axe him. Cue more high turnover of squad. I do worry about some of the names on the odds lists - Campbell, Ricketts, Pressley would all leave the club even worse off I think."
