There are some unsurprisingly low scores in our player ratings...

Didn't get enough on van Veen's header to push it away from the danger area. Little he could do for United's other two goals but fortunate to spill Novak's hat-trick effort onto the bar and not into the net... 5
Certainly not the worst culprit on a day to forget for Town's back four but, as good a finish as it was, he shouldn't have afforded van Veen the time or space to pull it off... 5

A thoroughly miserable return to his former club. Can only assume he was still feeling the effects of illness as there's no other way to explain such an out-of-sorts display from the skipper, by far his worst of the season... 4
Usually assured and steady, it was strange to see him look so shaky and insecure. Lost Novak when the defender went through on goal and never got to grips with Scunthorpe's front two in Town's disastrous first 31 minutes... 4
Should have done more to cut out Gilliead's cross and then limped off with a hamstring injury... 4.5
Rare that he's so ineffective and off the pace in the midfield battle. His struggle to get a foothold in the game no doubt contributed to his half-time substitution... 4.5
Hard to pin too much blame on him given how he was shunted around. Started in midfield, moved to left-back and finished at right-back. Was actually doing OK beforehand and at least put in a tackle or two... 5.5
Shot into the side-netting in his best sight of goal but fed off scraps in the first-half and it became a struggle as part of a midfield two in the second... 5
Had a couple of half chances and embarked on the odd darting run into opposition territory but that was about it in an attacking sense. Ended the game as Cobblers' third different right-back... 5
A difficult afternoon for the winger who was on the periphery for large parts and when he did have the chance to deliver his radar was off... 5
Just his second start in any competition this season and it ended in disaster. Sending off was harsh though, he was clearly going for the ball and there was no intent behind the challenge... 4.5
One crumb of comfort on a grim afternoon. Always made himself available for a pass and ran the game for Town in the second-half. Composed under pressure too. Played on a different level to any of his team-mates... 7 CHRON STAR MAN
Forced the best save out of either Scunthorpe goalkeeper with a neat flick moments after coming on, but it became a hopeless task once Oliver saw red... 6
Game had gone by the time he was introduced... 6
