Town were a long way from their best for large swathes of the game but did finish strongly and so nearly grabbed all three points with some late chances. Here are our player ratings...
9. Sam Hoskins
Not much to shout about for an hour or so but did come on strong during the final 20 minutes, setting up chances for Pinnock and Eppiah and hitting the bar himself. Before then it was all too easy for United's defence... 5.5
10. Bez Lubala
The only bright spark for Cobblers in the first-half, in an attacking sense anyway. Looked busy and lively but didn't have enough support around him and then faded out of the game... 5.5
11. Danny Rose
His fortunes show no sign of turning around after another hugely frustrating night. Didn't give the home defence enough to think about and was unable to offer either an outlet or focal point for the visitors' disjointed attack... 4.5
12. Josh Eppiah
A very eye-catching cameo. Did more in his 20 minutes than anyone else throughout the whole game on either side. Some great runs, silky touches and clever movement. So close to scoring twice, both times denied by excellent defending. There will be clamouring for him to start on Saturday but it's a tough call for Brady who will not want to take any risks for fear of losing him in the long-term... 7
