Saunders: Once this opportunity came up, I just wanted to get it done
Harvey Saunders declared himself ‘absolutely delighted’ to sign for Cobblers.
The former Fleetwood, Tranmere and Bristol Rovers striker, who scored 11 goals on loan at Eastleigh last season, was announced as Northampton’s first summer arrival on Wednesday evening.

"I’m absolutely delighted to get it sorted,” said Saunders. “This is a massive club. I’ve played against Northampton a few times in the past and it’s always looked like a good club to play football. Once this opportunity came up, I just wanted to get it done.”
"It’s just great to get it done so early in the summer because there’s no panic and it’s not last-minute or anything. I know the plan, I feel settled already, and I’m excited to get going.”
Chris Hogg, Northampton’s new boss, inevitably played an important role in the 28-year-old’s move.
"It was the way he spoke and the way he held himself,” Saunders added. “It’s an exciting time for the club and the manager explained to me how things are progressing in the right direction and the club does things the right way.
"Last season was obviously tough but it’s a bit of a fresh start and sometimes that’s what’s needed. Hopefully we can kick on and achieve what we want to achieve.”
Giving the lowdown on his career to date, Saunders continued: "I started very late and I was only playing pub football until 17 or 18 but I came up through the leagues and then signed for Fleetwood.
"I also played for Bristol Rovers and Tranmere Rovers and I really enjoyed myself at Eastleigh last year and I felt I had a good season with them. I just needed game-time.
"I knew I could do it but I needed the chance to prove it and I thought I did that with Eastleigh. They backed me and gave me the confidence I needed and hopefully I can do that again here.
"I’m quick and I’ll work hard. If there’s any balls to be chased I’ll do my best to get after them and do everything I can do to help the team.”
