Richards leaves role on coaching staff at Cobblers

Marc Richards has left his position as Cobblers first-team coach.

The 43-year-old former striker, who had two spells as Northampton during his playing days, scoring 63 goals in over 200 appearances, was initially appointed a youth team coach in June 2018 before working alongside Jon Brady with the Under-18s. He then stepped up to the first-team with Brady in February 2021 and was officially named first-team coach three months later.

He has remained on the coaching staff since, holding various roles, but this week the club announced his departure as part of their restructuring process following the appointments of Chris Hogg (manager) and Chris Doig (assistant manager). Colin Calderwood and Ian Sampson remain in their roles, but another person to leave Sixfields is analyst Liam Jefferson. He joined the club as head of academy analysis in 2019 before stepping up to the first-team two years later.

"As part of a restructuring of the first-team staff, Marc Richards has stepped away from his position as first-team coach,” the club confirmed. “We would like to thank Marc for his work as part of the first-team coaching staff over the last five years and wish him well for the future.”

Richards himself posted the following on social media: “Hi everyone! I’m seeking a new role and would appreciate your support. If you hear of any opportunities or just want to catch up, please send me a message or comment below. I’d love to reconnect.

“About me & what I’m looking for: I’m looking for Football Coach, Assistant Football Coach, and Head Football Coach roles. I’m open to roles in the Northampton area, United Kingdom. ⭐ I’ve previously worked at Northampton Town Football Club (Official).”
