Cobblers could still be involved in the Sky Bet League Two play-offs this season even if the remainder of the regular season is cancelled, it is being reported.

League Two clubs met for a crunch talks earlier on Friday where it was reportedly agreed that all remaining fixtures, bar the play-offs, will be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The final standings will instead be decided on a points-per-game model weighted for home and away games with the top three - Swindon, Crewe and Plymouth - promoted to League One and the four clubs between fourth and seventh to take part in two-legged play-off semi-finals and then a final.

If a points-per-game method is used, Cobblers would finish seventh and inside the play-offs, just ahead of Port Vale. They'd face Cheltenham in the semi-final with Exeter taking on Colchester.

The clubs are said to have held an indicative vote before making it official next week, although any decision would have to be ratified by both the EFL board and the FA.
